New Hostage Mix !

Hostage is back with one of his heaviest mixes yet, sure to blow your eardrums while they were still ringing from January's Essential Mix. Littered with surefire dancefloor slayers including the next tune from his next Nightshifters EP 'Valkyrie', this mix is as big as it gets and is exactly what you can expect when he's behind the decks.

Enjoy

Most Expensive Turntable in the World

The successor to the 25-year-old Goldmund Reference is a high-precision turntable with level calibration to less than 1/100th of a millimeter and its stylus, pivot and counterweight “perfectly aligned for optimal dynamic balance.” Three Teflon tubes prevent vibration of the wires as they carry signal from the turntable. The turntable also features a digital processor that provides RIAA correction which, I’m guessing, has nothing to do with those people who sue people for downloading MP3 files.
The world’s most expensive turntable is limited to a mere twenty-five units with only five being made per year.

Adidas Star Wars Collection

As we are all geeks on this blog I thought I would post up the link to the Adidas Star Wars collection...lets see if between us we can get the full collection :)

Afternoon Tunes

Hi the folks Ron Negro signing in with what should be a slightly more relaxed series of posts of tracks i dont get to play out but love to listen to whilst working.
First up is a selection of takes on one of my all time fave tracks "only love can break your heart"
Im normally a man of beats so lyrics have to be something special for me to pick up on them, the fact that each version of this track the emphasis is on totally different parts of the track.
First up is the original Neil Young version apparently written about his former band member Graham Nash (of Crosby, Stills and Nash) and his split from then Girlfriend Joni Mitchell (singer of big yellow taxi, and Starbucks hippie sellout!)

Next up is the famous and frankly quite genius Saint Etienne version in which Moira Lamberts haunting vocal is joined by what i consider to be one of the best piano house hooks ever to create a down-tempo classic that served me well at sunset sets in Ibiza bringing a smile to everyones face especially as i would play the full extened spliff mix.
Heres the original music vid.

The Next take is by Everlast, a version introduced to me by Terry Christian on a balmy afternoon at Jacksons Boat Back in 98'. Formally of House Of Pain, Everlast took a massive life and artistical direction change after a major heart attack and this track appears on his second and most acclaimed album "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues" and would later go on to feature in the film Big Daddy.
Cant find the official version of this, but this kid seems to get the fun of the track just right.

And Finally, not really a cover as such but a remix of the Saint Etienne version from late last year, taken from Fox Base Beta the aptly named remixed album of Fox Base Alpha its the Richard X re-interpretation and the one i listen to quite often at the mo. Richard X is a producer that seems tainted in a lot of folks minds after the whole liberty x thing, but in my mind still one of the best all round producers the uk has to offer having worked on Sam Sparro, Goldfrapp, M.I.A. and Roisin Murphy.
